Each shape is built in steps. The squirrel's tail sits one layer behind its body, the owl's wings fold over its belly, and the mushroom cap overhangs its stem, so every edge throws a small shadow. The rest is cut into the surface: eyes closed, a heart on the fox's chest, tiny hearts running down the hedgehog's back. The owl is asleep.
