Geometric Molds
Geometric silicone molds for resin, plaster and candle casting - faceted trays, octagons, spheres, roman columns, rods and angular vessels. Geometric forms are the most forgiving shapes to cast and the least forgiving to finish: there are no undercuts to trap material, but every edge and flat face shows any flaw immediately.
Why geometric shapes are a good place to start
Straight walls and clean angles mean material flows in easily, air escapes readily, and demolding is straightforward. If you are new to casting, a geometric mold gives you a usable result on the first pour far more reliably than a detailed figurine does. They also scale: a geometric tray or sphere pours fast enough to batch.
Sharp edges need a full cure
The corners and points are the first thing to chip if you demold early. Geometric casts look finished before they are - a flat surface can feel hard while the core is still soft. Wait the full cure time, then flex the mold rather than pulling the piece, and the edges come out crisp.
Finishing flat faces
Large flat surfaces show every bubble and every brush mark, so they reward a slow pour and a light sand before painting. A matte finish suits geometric plaster pieces; high gloss tends to highlight surface imperfection rather than hide it.
