Open-face molds are where the throughput is

If you cast ornaments to sell, open-face molds are the workhorse. There is no two-part alignment, no seam to sand, and a batch can be poured, cured and demolded in a fraction of the time a closed 3D form takes. The 3D ornament molds in this collection are the hero pieces you price higher; the open-face ones are what actually fills a market stall.

Plaster or resin for ornaments

Plaster is the cheaper and more paintable of the two, and it gives the matte, ceramic-like finish most ornament buyers expect. Resin is more durable and can be cast translucent or with inclusions suspended inside - better for pendants and anything that will be handled. For tree ornaments that live in a box eleven months of the year, plaster is usually the right call.

Plan the hanging hole before you pour

The most common ornament mistake is casting first and thinking about the ribbon afterwards. Molds with a built-in loop or hole solve it for you. For molds without one, set a small eye pin or a loop of cord into the material just as it starts to thicken - too early and it sinks, too late and it will not seat.
